Recovery Information

Steps To Action Recovery Treatment is a project sponsored by the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mercer County Police Chiefs Association.

This information packet is designed to provide assistance and information for people in need of treatment for addiction. Please note that Mercer Council does not offer direct treatment services but simply provides this information to assist those in need of treatment.

If you or someone you know has just overdosed, you/they are at the greatest possible risk of overdosing again. If you have not overdosed, treatment may prevent you from experiencing an overdose or other negative consequences. This packet contains information on treatment resources for addiction and mental health.

About Treatment

Each health insurance company differs in its services and treatment options. Call the Membership Services telephone number found on your insurance card to receive a referral to a local treatment provider that accepts your insurance.

Even without health insurance, many people with lower incomes are eligible for very low cost or free treatment. Call the NJ Addiction Services Hotline at 1-844-276-2777. They will assess your needs and look at your income to assist in referring you to the best, most effective treatment option available.

The NJ Addiction Services Hotline will also link you to a local provider that accepts Medicaid. If you have Medicare and need treatment, call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 and they will assess your needs and link you to a local provider that accepts Medicare.

Narcan Training

Getting trained in how to administer Narcan is strongly recommended and is available for free through Rutgers Opioid Overdose Prevention Network. All attendees 18 years old and older can obtain free Naloxone kits after attending the training.

Having access to Narcan is helpful for someone who is at risk of an opioid/heroin overdose and/or their friends and family. Email PreventionOverdose@rwjms.ruters.edu or call 732-235-4341 to register for an upcoming Narcan training.

Mercer Council occasionally hosts free community Narcan trainings. Visit our events calendar to view any upcoming Narcan trainings hosted by the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County.
