Protecting You, Protecting Me
The 2018-2019 school year has concluded, and the Protecting You, Protecting Me (PYPM) alcohol use prevention program for grades K-5 was delivered to students at Washington Elementary School in Trenton, NJ. Over 300 students participated in PYPM, and all grades K-5 were reached! Thank you to all the staff and students who welcomed me into their school to provide this beneficial program! When asked about the effectiveness of PYPM, teachers especially liked the level of student engagement and interaction with the lessons, the age appropriateness of the curriculum, how students gained knowledge about what to do to get out of unsafe situations (i.e. safe riding in a car with a driver who is not alcohol-free), and the way the program emphasized to students the importance of making good decisions. Both positive and impactful, PYPM is an excellent prevention program that I look forward to delivering again in the upcoming school year!
Also highlighting on the success of PYPM this year, I had the opportunity to return for my second year to the Bicycle Safety Rodeo and Safe Kids Day in Lawrenceville, hosted by the St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center (link to video below). There I provided important resources to the parents and giveaways for the children. I also had a table at the Princeton Wheels Rodeo hosted by the Municipality of Princeton (picture below). Thank you to St. Lawrenceville Rehabilitation and the Princeton Police for welcoming me at both Rodeo events!
