Overdose Awareness Day- JOIN US!
On Tuesday, August 30th, 2022, we are hosting the 7th annual Mercer County Overdose Awareness event in Ewing, NJ from 5:30-8PM, at the Ewing Community and Senior Center.
This will be our seventh annual IOAD- Here is a brief video of some of the highlights from 2021's event-
This event is presented by the One Voice Initiative, a partnership between the Mercer Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction, the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County, and the Mercer County Office of the Prosecutor, in conjunction with our host, Ewing Township. This event is for the whole community: families, friends, loved ones, emergency and law enforcement members, and recovery groups for all to mourn losses, celebrate recovery, prevent overdose deaths and substance use, and get connections to resources they need. This is a moving event, often with laughter and tears, that involves remembering people who died of an overdose, and supporting those that survived and are either in recovery or seeking help for substance use challenges.

This event begins with going to vendor tables to gather needed recovery support information, medical assistance, Narcan demonstrations, support groups, unused medicine drop-off, and more. There is a memorial display where people can leave notes to loved ones, and display pictures, shoes, trophies, and memorabilia of their loved one's life. Next, there is a formal program of local leaders, law enforcement, and first responders, and personal experiences including a color guard and prayer. This night ends with a very moving circle of remembrance, where loved ones share memories of those they lost, or get support in their journey, surrounded by lighted lanterns, that ends in the recovery standard song, Amazing Grace. It truly is a night that brings communities closer together and motivates them to better understand how to avoid substance use challenges, prevent overdose and overdose deaths, and most importantly, remember and support those who are struggling or who lost their lives from overdose.
Please join us and invite friends, families, and neighbors to register with you at https://mercercouncil.org/calendar/eventdetail/725/-/7th-annual-mercer-county-international-overdose-awareness There will be free T-shirts for registrants while supplies last.
