Prescription Opioid Drug Abuse is a worldwide epidemic that has plagued The United Statesd from coast to coast. The most abused medications are opiates, or pain relievers such as : oxycodone, methadone, hydrocodone,codeine, and percocet. The amount of prescription painkillers prescribed, and sold in the US has substantially increased. The emergency department admissions has seen an influx of patients related to overdoses from prescription painkillers. As the nation becomes more aware and recognizes that opioid abuse is a growing epidemic, The American Medical Association Alliance is focusing efforts and educating physicians, families, and the community about the causes, dangers, and treatments of opioid addiction. August 31,2018 is Opioid Misuse Prevention Day, where we can gain useful tools to better service a population in desperate need of help.
