2021 Geetha Arulmohan Scholarship Award Now Accepting Applications
It's that time again -- time to encourage all graduating high school seniors planning on attending college in the fall, as well as students currently enrolled in college, those in licensure programs and college seniors planning to attend graduate school to apply for the Geetha Arulmohan Scholarship Award.
This education scholarship is in the amount of $500 and is available to Mercer County residents (or individuals attending school in Mercer County) pursuing education/certification/licensure in the fields of prevention, social work, counseling or related to working with individuals with substance related challenges (i.e., CADC, CPS, LCADC, CPRS, CRSP or Bachelors in the fields of social work, public health, psychology, etc).
This scholarship was created in memory of Geetha Arulmohan who was the Executive Director of Mercer Council for over fourteen years. It was her personal mission to reduce the devastation caused by addiction in the Mercer County area. Her dedication to her work was well known in the community over many years. Prior to accepting the position of Executive Director of the Mercer Council, Geetha had been employed at the Crisis Center at Helene Fuld Hospital and at the Trenton Treatment Center. She had extensive knowledge of mental health and addiction issues.
The Council hopes to continue to offer this important scholarship in the future, however due to the pandemic and inability to hold fundraisers, our funds are being diminished. If you feel passionate about donating to this cause, please do so. Applications are due by May 15th and the application can be accessed here:
Funds permitting, two scholarship awards will be presented at the annual Prevention Awards Breakfast in June 2021.*
*Scholarships are based on availability of funds and may be subject to change.
