Metro Employee Assistance Services (MEAS) Employers know from experience that personal problems and substance abuse, even when unrelated to work, can adversely affect job performance and career progress. Problems left unattended to would lead to a decrease in well-being for employees and a less than healthy functioning workplace. At one time, employers typical response to employees whose work performance had deteriorated was to terminate resulting in greater expenses and productivity loss to their bottom line. Employers soon learned that by providing resources to employees such as Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), both the health of the worker and and the productivity of the business improved. Over the years, research has steadily supported the benefits of EAPs and are provided by over 85% of fortune 500 companies throughout the United States. MEAS provides short-term, confidential counseling/case management services to over 30 employers in Mercer County and surrounding areas on a contractual basis at no cost to the employee.
